Club Role - Timekeeper

This is a very valuable, but often under-rated role that is usually given to the newer members to provide a brief speaking opportunity.

Make sure you arrive early enough to check the agenda so that you know the timings for each role. Bring a pen to record each time. If you are not sure of the timing for a role, ask the Chairman or speaker involved. Also check that the stopwatch and lights are working, and that you know how to operate them. Typically three lights are used to indicate the three times shown in the agenda, in the order green, yellow, red. Some short speaking roles, such as introducing a speaker, may just have one time shown (e.g. 1 min). In these cases just use the red light.

During the meeting, time and record the time for every speaking assignment.

When you give your report, keep it short. Give the times for each prepared speech and, if it was not a standard 5 - 7 minute speech, also give the target time. For the other speaking assignments it is only necessary to mention any exceptions, especially those who ran badly over time. For table topics it is often sufficient to only give the shortest and longest times and maybe mention those who exceeded 2 ½ minutes.
