Club Role - General Evaluator

The role of the General Evaluator is to evaluate the whole of the meeting. This function is seen as an important part of the overall meeting because it provides feedback to all those who have had a formal role in the meeting on their managing and handling of the role. This evaluation does not include evaluating those who have given prepared speeches, but it does include evaluating those who have evaluated the speakers. Generally, those whose performance is commented upon during the General Evaluation are:

ASAs- some of the areas that the GE needs to comment upon in relation to the ASA's performance are:

Did they arrive early?
Were the members and guests greeted warmly?
Was the room well setup for the meeting?
Were the members name tags readily available?
Were guests encouraged to write their name in the guest book and given an identifying name tag?
Was the introduction of guests and the apologies read out clearly and distinctly?
Was the coffee etc made before the meeting and then brought into the meeting room at the designated time, and removed after the break with the least amount of disruption?

The Chairman - comment on the manner in which the Chair has managed the meeting:

Did the Chair made contact early enough for those who were taking an active part in the meeting to be aware of what was expected of them in their roles?
Is there a clear programme for all attendees to follow the progress of the meeting?
Did the Chair use authority to keep the meeting on line and call the meeting to order when appropriate?
Were there any dissenters who abused the time allowed to them by going grossly over time and putting the timing of the overall meeting in jeopardy?
Did the Chair link the speakers with appropriate comments?
Did the Chair create a warm and supportive atmosphere for the meeting yet at the same time run it efficiently and finish it on time.

The Table Topics Evaluator - comment on the way the Table Topics evaluator evaluated the Table Topics Master and speakers, using the same guidelines as for a speech evaluation, but taking into account the Table Topics Evaluator's limited time

The Grammarian - comment on the challenge set by the Grammarian.

Was it appropriate to give those who spoke the opportunity to include the challenge in their speech?
Was the challenge well explained?
How well did the Grammarian report back in connection with this challenge - were listening skills used?

The Evaluators - it is necessary to comment on the Speech Evaluators in the following way:

The Introduction of the speaker - was this clear; were the speech objectives (both manual and personal) stated; were previous speeches mentioned to give a background to the speaker; was the speech title mentioned and was the timing of the speech given.

The Evaluation of the speaker - did the evaluator provide positive feedback; was the CRC (commend, recommend, commend) method used; did the evaluation focus on how well the speaker met the stated speech objectives - both manual and personal; were the recommendations given with examples of how the speaker could improve future speeches;

Finally comment on any other aspect of the meeting that may warrant a comment such as timekeeper, grammarian and the general business session, or the general layout and appearance of the room..
