A Background to Toastmasters

The Chartered Chatterers Toastmasters club was formed in 1994, sponsored by the Woman's Brach of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand (ICANZ). We have maintained strong links with ICANZ ever since.

Chartered Chatterers is one of four Breakfast clubs meeting in Wellington (one meets every morning except Monday). There are also Wellington clubs meeting at lunchtime, after work and later in the evening. In total there are over 40 clubs in the Wellington Division (Division E), with about 30 meeting in Wellington and suburbs, 6 meeting in the Hutt Valley and another 6 meeting from Tawa to the Kapiti Coast.

Overall, there are nearly 220 Toastmasters clubs throughout New Zealand.

In International terms, New Zealand is one Toastmasters District (out of about 80), and is one of the largest. While there are Toastmasters clubs in more than 50 countries, world-wide, 90% of Toastmasters are in the United States, which is where the organisation is headquartered.
